In The Language of Flowers, I transform traditional knitting and embroidery instruction magazines by using them in unconventional ways. These once utilitarian guides are given new life as I intervene directly upon them—knitting, embroidering, and layering threads into their printed surfaces. Through this process, I merge the historical and the contemporary, creating hybrid works where text, image, and textile intersect.
Each painting in the series is dedicated to a traditional Ukrainian flower. By invoking these culturally rooted floral symbols, I connect personal memory with collective heritage.
My practice draws upon a wide spectrum of traditional textile techniques—knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, and painting—while interweaving them with my own technological innovations. These unique methods, developed through experimentation, allow me to expand the expressive potential of textiles beyond their conventional boundaries.
The result is a body of work that both honors and disrupts tradition: a reimagining of craft that challenges notions of utility, authorship, and material memory.
