About Me
Maria (Masha) Zverin is an Israeli textile designer of Ukrainian descent, researcher, and lecturer whose practice lies at the intersection of material innovation, cultural heritage, and contemporary design. Educated at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art, where she later joined the faculty, Zverin is recognized for her contributions to the fields of textile development and experimental surface design.
Her work often investigates the dialogue between traditional textile techniques and cutting-edge technologies, bridging craft with innovation.
By engaging with knitting, painting, embroidery and material manipulation, she creates textiles that challenge conventional perceptions of fabric as a purely utilitarian medium, positioning it instead as a platform for cultural expression and conceptual exploration.
As a lecturer at Shenkar, Zverin plays a central role in shaping the next generation of designers, emphasizing a rigorous approach that combines critical theory, hands-on experimentation, and sustainable practice. Her pedagogy highlights the importance of contextual awareness—encouraging students to consider social, historical, and ecological dimensions within the field of design.
